Apply for a membership to a public workspace
For all public workspaces, which you can see within the Public subcategory of the relevant workspace category, you can request team membership.
If it concerns a public MS Teams workspace, you can become a member without having to submit an application.
With regard to a SharePoint site workspace, your request will be submitted to the workspace’s owners.
Join an MS Teams workspace
You can join any public MS Teams workspace.

Click the name of the public MS Teams workspace.
The Join Team panel is displayed:

Click the option Join team.
You are added to the workspace’s team as a member.
The link for the MS Teams workspace is moved directly to the My subcategory.

So now select the My subcategory to find the workspace link again.
Tip: If you will be frequently active in this workspace, place the workspace link tile on the far left of the top tile row with the Move to top option.
Apply for membership to a public SharePoint site workspace
If you request membership for a SharePoint site workspace, your request will be submitted to the workspace's owners.
When you have submitted your request, the workspace's owners will receive an email notifying them of your request.
After your request has been honored, you will be a team member of the workspace with the default permissions that apply to all internal team members.

Click the ellipsis menu button of the workspace link and select the Join Team option.
The Request membership form is displayed:
In the Request membership form you can see what your permissions will be within the workspace (Default Permissions) once your request has been approved.
If you require additional permissions, you will be able to request them once you are a team member (see Request a new role).
Also, you can see who is/are the workspace’s owner(s) (Approver(s)) to whom your request will be addressed.

If you so wish, enter an explanation for your request in the Add Comment box.

Click Joint team.
Your request will be confirmed as an Activity Feed notification, on your activity dashboard:
The owners of the workspace will be automatically notified of your request by e-mail:
Once one of the workspace owners has completed your application, you will receive a corresponding notification (approval or rejection) by email:
The text of these automated email messages can be set/adjusted by your application administrator (see Managing the templates for automatically generated email messages).
